Auditory Treatment and Remediation

Neurofeedback treatment increases the development of auditory and receptive/expressive language processing.

Our computerized rehabilitation programs increase the speed of auditory processing and receptive language. As with neurofeedback, they take advantage of the brains’ ability to rewire itself. The programs saturate the patient with exercises stimulating the left area of the brain involved in auditory / language processing. Because the brain has enormous plasticity, it can rewire itself to a stronger system that can actually strengthen weak connections in the brain that support language skills. The brain becomes much more capable of connecting oral language with the written word, which is fundamental for reading. Phoological (sound) awareness and language comprehension skills improve. Language abilities are improved which are not only necessary for adequate reading skills, but also for listening comprehension.

Speech therapy remediates delays in receptive and expressive language, and increases auditory processing of information. Based upon the findings of the initial evaluation and establishing developmental levels, the speech therapist teaches vocabulary and the basic concepts that should have been learned automatically. To increase sequencing behaviors ( such as putting words and sentences in order coherently. The speech therapist, just as an example, may give the patient multiple tasks to complete thereby increasing auditory processing and receptive language.

Language is the basis of thought. Without adequate language and processing skills, a child will not develop to his fullest potential.

How Does The Treatment Work?

These exercises are based upon specific neuroscience principles:

  • Intensity and Frequency - Just as learning to play a musical instrument requires focused practice and repetition in the skills necessary for language, auditory processing, and reading.
  • Adaptability - The training adapts to each individual’s incoming skill level and on-going process to keep him/her challenged and moving forward.
  • Motivation - The exercise used involve engaging animations and on-screen rewards to keep individuals motivated and attentive
  • Integrative Skills Training - These exercises provide a “cross-training” approach that simultaneously reinforces a wide range of skills while focusing on one or more specific skill sets.

    ADHD Success Story

The program design for our son was really helpful and gave our son a confident feeling like other normal kids have. At the beginning we had so many issues listed that we wanted Drake to deal with e.g. hyperactivity, focus, following instructions, eye to eye contact to name a few.

With the following program offered by Drake (Neurofeedback, Fast Forward, and Captain’s Log) our son developed tremendous improvement as he moves forward in his daily life. Imagine you’re watching the TV series (Flip your Habits!). Everything changes as time goes by.

There is no amount of words or money that can explain the feeling that we feel as a parent as we walk out towards the close out of our son’s program at Drake.

Again, we recommend Drake Institute to everybody who has a similar struggle that we have undergone with our son. Try it and it really works.
